PurpleFuntastick Creations Guest Designer - Tuesday

Hello Friends!

Welcome to my blog today and I have one of my dear besties as my guest today...Lynne from Her Craftiness! so check out below her wonderful quilt! :)

Lucky me --- I'm Kari's Guest Designer today

at http://purplefuntastickcreations.blogspot.com/ and thought I would be reminiscent of my youth and hopefully not bore you -

For my project today, I am showing a little wallhanging that I hang in my dining room to remind me of how thankful I am! The pattern that was used is "Such an Angel" by Nancy Halverson. I just love how it hangs at an angle with the use of a pumpkin button with the little heart shaped hook!

For my Bible verse, I have chosen: Psalm 107:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

When I was growing up, all of my wonderful memories of Thanksgiving begin with my grandparents, John and Molly Brenckle. Now, they are the most wonderful inspiration couple that endured a blessed life together. I was basically raised by my grandparents and witnessed not only their love for each other but their love for Jesus. Now, Pap granted he would go in his little tyrants and say how he felt about the preacher. But Gram on the other hand, was a sweet, loving, Christian who taught me the love of Jesus. For this I am very very thankful.

The picture above is of me and my Pap . . . I always looked up to him and I was his langa beine leibschen (long legged lovely).

I want to tell you a bit about Gram . . . a lot of my memories center around the dining room table. Gram of course was the best cook but she always made enough food for just one more. Her reasoning was that if Jesus would knock at the door, there was always a place for him to sit at her table along with food to serve him. I guess, I have incorporated that with my cooking -- but at times, Jesus can bring a whole army with him with the amount of extra food that I have prepared!

We didn't have the traditional Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes and such but we were proud to call a German Thanksgiving dinner with roast beef, or as Pap would say roasta beef, of course gravy and then the most delectable potato dumpling that would have buttery fried bread crumbs in the center and rolled into a snowball and boiled in water which were called Kartoffelkloesse. My mouth is watering now but the best part would be the following day where Gram would slice them and then brown them in butter! Alright, there went an extra 10 pounds on the scale!!!!

Thanksgiving to me is memories of my wonderful grandparents. I thank God for their love and that they instilled in me the path in life. The wonderful smells of the kitchen, my grandmother always showing her love and faith with her delectable German food . . . these are the things that instill the importance of family with warm memories. Thank you Gram and Pap . . . I still have the table ready for Jesus if he would come knocking as you had taught. Much love and miss you both!

Thanks Kari for giving letting me be you Guest Designer as I most definitely consider it a priviledge especially this time of the year as it brings back those warm fuzzy holiday memory feelings!

God Bless

Hugs and Love
Lynne

Thankful Hearts Blog Hop - Nov. 19, 2011

Hello Friends! Welcome to my blog! and I am so glad that you stopped by and Welcome to the Thankful Hearts Blog Hop that me and my dear friend and sister Lynne Kirsch and I put together...we wanted to remind everyone about being thankful and count our blessings. If you came from Anita then you are in the right place but if you happened upon my blog please start at the beginning at Lynne. :) Don't want you to miss some fab creations from these wonderful talents that are in this hop! :)

We are giving away a blog candy and you can check it out below and make sure to make a comment and that is it...easy peasy! :)

When the Holidays comes around it is like we are rushing around constantly rushing to shop, cooking and that sort of stuff that we need to realized how blessed we are by God.
I am so thankful I have my Lord and Savior and I am so thankful for many things that my list is a mile long but I am so blessed by the crafty community and recently I was blessed with a new digital cam that someone sent me and another is sending me a memory card. And I am blessed with friendships like these that will last a lifetime...and I can't wait to meet some of my friends on Facebook and I am thankful to God for my family and my sons and church and my church family.

Like I said I can go on...hehe...so I will stop here for now...and show you my project that I plan to use on my table...it is only me and my son when we have Thanksgiving dinner but don't be sad...it has been that way for a long time and we are okay with it...we serve in the soup kitchen for the Holidays...both Thanksgiving Day and Christmas day...it is good to serve and remember there is others worst off than we and we have alot to be thankful for...

I made a simple place card.....I did this with an idea from Theresa the ScrappingQueen...she did a card along this same line...it gave me a cute idea to "lift" from it...I punched out two 2" circles and then I folded one of them to use as a pop up for my Turkey (Hero Arts) from I had brought years ago and I just love this gobbler...hehe...I used the stamp on white cardstock and colored with my watercolor pencils...and then I used clear Stickles to give him some oomph...I taped him to the one half of the circle as shown...then I used the pumpkin sticker to give it something and then I use my CTMH stamp "give thanks" on the other circle and voila! :) I love it and my son is going to be surprised...I wanted to do something special this year since we in a new chapter of our lives with him being a senior in HS ...you will have to excuse the pics since they r off my not so great cell phone.

Thanks for joining us on the hop and I hope you were inspired to make something today and be thankful for your blessings...and I want to send you blessings to have a wonderful weekend. :)
